What it is really like

At 4 pm in an IIM classroom, teenagers argue over saving a failing tea brand. An IPM joins a three-year bachelor's phase to the IIM's two-year MBA, the master's degree in business. A BMS or BBA is a three-year degree of case studies and internships. Later, consulting means long hours and travel.

Top colleges and what it takes

The 5-year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM: BBA + MBA) at the IIMs admits on an aptitude test plus a personal interview: IPMAT Indore (used by IIM Indore, Ranchi and Shillong), IIM Rohtak's own IPMAT, and NTA's JIPMAT (IIM Bodh Gaya and Jammu). IIMs publish shortlist cut-offs in admission reports, not closing ranks; scores are raw marks unless stated, and portal compilations differ, so treat them as a guide (marked approx). DU's BMS and BBA (FIA) admit on CUET-UG through CSAS; their merit uses a different subject mix from B.Com, so the scores are on a lower scale and must not be compared with B.Com scores. Private universities (NMIMS, Christ, Symbiosis) use their own tests.

  • Practise quantitative aptitude (quick maths reasoning) and reading.
