Preface

Every year, about 15 lakh students sit JEE Main and more than 22 lakh sit NEET-UG. Many of them are there because engineering and medicine, with chartered accountancy, are the only doors their families know well. The choice shapes the next forty years, yet it is often made on the advice of relatives and coaching advertisements.

This book exists to widen that view and to make the decision a better-informed one. It maps more than forty routes after Class 12, from design, law and research science to nursing, agriculture, hospitality and teaching. For each, it answers the questions families actually ask: what the student will study, how to get in, what it costs, what it pays after five and ten years, and who it suits.

It is also a tool for deciding. Part One helps a student understand their interests and judge any degree. Part Two gives every route its own chapter. Part Three turns the choice into a two-year plan the family can follow together.

Sources and method. The content draws on public, citable sources: official exam notices, regulator data, the government's NIRF college data, national surveys and published fee schedules. Research and drafting were carried out with the support of AI research tools, and every chapter was then reviewed and edited by the author. Figures are rounded and linked to their sources. Closing thoughts

You began with three doors in view: doctor, engineer, CA. You end knowing there are many more.

Which degree you pick matters less than its shape, its price and when you decide. Your Class 12 stream is rarely the barrier it seems. Where you study shapes your return as much as what you study, so keep debt low. As AI thins junior work, people who build and own a problem will hold their value.

Decide together, keep a plan B, and check every date against the real 2028 notices. Then open the door that is yours.
